Court Order Overturned, Father’s Final Wish Fulfilled

In April 2025, a daughter approached a repatriation firm with a heavy heart. Her father had passed away in Hong Kong, and she was determined to bring his body home to the burial ground he had purchased years before his death. It was his final wish — one she was committed to honouring.

But the journey was far from simple.

A Family Divided, A Court's Decision

The daughter initially sought a quotation from a repatriation firm to send her father’s body back. However, a heartbreaking conflict soon arose between her and her brother. While she sought to fulfil her father’s wish for burial in his home country, her brother prioritized cost-efficiency and advocated for the repatriation of cremated ashes.

The dispute escalated to the court in the destination country. After consulting the chosen repatriation firm via the Consulate General in Hong Kong, the court was advised that embalming was not possible due to the time elapsed since death. As the basic requirement for importing a human body could not be satisfied, the court declined to issue a burial permit and ordered that the cremated ashes be repatriated instead. The daughter was devastated. Her father’s final wish seemed out of reach, along with her chance for closure.

A Turnaround Through Outreach Consultation

Hoping for a solution, the daughter reached out to another repatriation firm — a long-established partner of ours. After hearing her story, our partner recognized that the situation required a professional assessment. To re-evaluate the case thoroughly, they chose our Outreach Consultation service.

With the consulate's approval, our chief embalmer, Nick, went to the mortuary to personally examine the body. Despite the time that had passed, his detailed assessment confirmed that embalming was indeed feasible for international transportation. The previous claim had been an assumption rather than a professional evaluation, misleading the court and threatening to deny the family their father's final wish.

Overturning the Court’s Order

Following the assessment, a comprehensive letter was issued to the judge explaining the technical findings, demonstrating why embalming was possible, and confirming that the repatriation would pose no risk to public health. Proof of Nick’s professional qualifications was attached to support the findings.

Convinced by the evidence-based submission, the judge accepted the claim and overturned the previous decision. A burial permit was officially issued, allowing the repatriation process to finally begin. Nick personally handled the embalming process to ensure the body was properly prepared for transport. When the body arrived in the destination country, the father was laid to rest in the burial ground he had personally chosen during his life.
